For our 6th Important Artist Conversation, Max Weiland has met British artist Emily Perry on Zoom to talk about the artist's approach to performance art and Corona. Emily Perry lives and works in London but is currently in Amsterdam for lockdown. She graduated with a degree in Fine Art Sculpture from the University of Brighton in 2014, and an MFA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London in 2018. She won the Seoul National University Award in Sculpture (2014), the Nagoya University of Arts Award (2014), was the showcase winner of the Artslant Showcase Installation Prize in 2015, and was Shortlisted for Bloomberg New Contemporaries in 2018.
Max and Emily met in 2014 in Berlin, as Max was one of her performer’s for the piece Hooker. In 2016, Max curated Emily’s solo exhibition Woman with Salad at the project space Centrum. Emily works in performance with sculptural elements and deal with topics around gender, sexuality, feminism and female representation.
